It only acts as a focused collection of updates and disaster know-how and is not meant for calling emergency services.

You can learn of the current weather in North Carolina, the road conditions if you’re traveling or planning to, and even the available shelters around your area. Whether you’re a resident of NC or just visiting, it’s good to be aware of the events transpiring.

ReadyNC doesn’t just give you the news. You can also learn some important tips and tricks that may help you during a disaster. This app informs you of the various hazards that you might encounter along the way. It also has a guide on making an emergency plan and kit. You can even view the various services you can contact on your phone for specific emergencies.
Keep Your Wits About You
While ReadyNC is meant to be used for updates on disasters, it’s only an app for information and won’t actually directly contact services for you. It’s also advised that you don’t fully rely on it and still check the radio or other news outlets for updates on severe weather, as there will be times that the app won’t be accurate. You’ll have to have a network connection for this to work in the first place, too.
What a Waste
ReadyNC promises a handy guide for disaster preparedness in North Carolina, however, it doesn’t fully live up to its promise. The information you’ll find is actually mostly outdated and will not help at all for current disasters. It’s a shame because this is being endorsed by the state of NC and they’re urging North Carolinians to use this, but it already fails to be of great use to them. You’re better off listening to the radio.
